MLB Season Preview: Yankees Edition

The 2009 campaign was a memorable one for the Bronx Bombers. They opened a brand new Yankee Stadium, they spent nearly half a billion dollars on three players, Alex Rodriguez admitted to taking steroids, had hip surgery, came back and dominated in playoffs (god that feels good to say). Oh yeah, and they won their 27th World Series.

Occasionally, for whatever reason, a piece on a topic we cover winds up being more being longer than first intended. In these rare situations, we'll break them down and turn them into Mini-Series exposes. This is the first of those.

Spring Training kicked off yesterday and we here at 35 Isn't Enough have our season predictions for you.
Initially, we intended this mini series to be a five-piece set. The final portion became to substantive that we were forced to cut it into two final pieces. We apologize for the delay for the final two and appreciate your interest. One of the two is featured below and the last piece will be up early Monday morning. Stay Tuned

In total, eight media outlets including the the LA Times, Sacramento Bee, and NBC Los Angeles, wrote eleven articles on the incident. The most fascinating aspect of the reporting (a term I use very loosely in this context) was the way they chose to depict what was said.

Pierce Blue over his Departure but You shouldn't be.

The Giants cut linebacker Antonio Pierce yesterday after five years that included four playoff appearances and a Super Bowl championship.

Antonio Pierce was exactly what the Giants defense needed in 2005 after going 6-10 the year prior. He quickly became a vocal leader on Coughlin's favored side of the ball where he racked up 378 tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions, six forced fumbles, and a touchdown during his Big Blue tenure.

Lavar Speaks His Mind, We Should Listen

When I heard former linebacker Lavar Arrington's rant in response to comments current Redskin Clinton Portis made about him on NFL Network, the passion and honesty he spoke with literally (and I'm at risk of sounding corny here) sent shivers down my back (yep, sounded corny).

For those of you who don't remember Lavar Arrington, he was a star at Penn St. for Joe Paterno where he earned the Butkus Award (given to top collegiate linebacker), Chuck Bednarik Award (given to top collegiate defensive player), and was a two time All-American.

Player-to-player interaction on twitter is one of the weirdest aspects of its use. I chose to use these interactions in an attempt to attract attention to “Z-Bo’s” tweeting. I’m still dumbfounded as to why these media superstars need to “connect” with one another via social sites.

The reaction from fans was immediate. I made a point to keep a consistent tone throughout the process because the substance of what was said was not necessarily crucial to its acceptance. More important was constructing a web of statements and comments that effused a feeling of realism in the viewer. The fan took care of the rest for me.
