MLB Season Preview: Yankees Edition

The 2009 campaign was a memorable one for the Bronx Bombers. They opened a brand new Yankee Stadium, they spent nearly half a billion dollars on three players, Alex Rodriguez admitted to taking steroids, had hip surgery, came back and dominated in playoffs (god that feels good to say). Oh yeah, and they won their 27th World Series.

Occasionally, for whatever reason, a piece on a topic we cover winds up being more being longer than first intended. In these rare situations, we'll break them down and turn them into Mini-Series exposes. This is the first of those.

MLB Predictions: American League

Spring Training kicked off yesterday and we here at 35 Isn't Enough have our season predictions for you.
Initially, we intended this mini series to be a five-piece set. The final portion became to substantive that we were forced to cut it into two final pieces. We apologize for the delay for the final two and appreciate your interest. One of the two is featured below and the last piece will be up early Monday morning. Stay Tuned

In total, eight media outlets including the the LA Times, Sacramento Bee, and NBC Los Angeles, wrote eleven articles on the incident. The most fascinating aspect of the reporting (a term I use very loosely in this context) was the way they chose to depict what was said.

Pierce Blue over his Departure but You shouldn't be.

The Giants cut linebacker Antonio Pierce yesterday after five years that included four playoff appearances and a Super Bowl championship.

Antonio Pierce was exactly what the Giants defense needed in 2005 after going 6-10 the year prior. He quickly became a vocal leader on Coughlin's favored side of the ball where he racked up 378 tackles, seven sacks, four interceptions, six forced fumbles, and a touchdown during his Big Blue tenure.

Lavar Speaks His Mind, We Should Listen

When I heard former linebacker Lavar Arrington's rant in response to comments current Redskin Clinton Portis made about him on NFL Network, the passion and honesty he spoke with literally (and I'm at risk of sounding corny here) sent shivers down my back (yep, sounded corny).

For those of you who don't remember Lavar Arrington, he was a star at Penn St. for Joe Paterno where he earned the Butkus Award (given to top collegiate linebacker), Chuck Bednarik Award (given to top collegiate defensive player), and was a two time All-American.

Player-to-player interaction on twitter is one of the weirdest aspects of its use. I chose to use these interactions in an attempt to attract attention to “Z-Bo’s” tweeting. I’m still dumbfounded as to why these media superstars need to “connect” with one another via social sites.

The reaction from fans was immediate. I made a point to keep a consistent tone throughout the process because the substance of what was said was not necessarily crucial to its acceptance. More important was constructing a web of statements and comments that effused a feeling of realism in the viewer. The fan took care of the rest for me.

MLB Season Preview: Yankees Edition

Part two of our New York baseball season preview concludes with the World Series Champion New York Yankees.

Key Additions: Curtis Granderson (CF), Javier Vazquez (SP), Nick Johnson (1B/DH), Randy Winn (OF)
Key Losses: Johnny Damon (OF), Chen Ming-Wang (SP), Jerry Hairston (Util), Eric Hinske (OF), Hideki Matsui (DH), Xavier Nady (OF)

One of the more desired perks coupled with sport celebrity is the conceivable copulation, void of conditions. Or in layman’s terms, Groupies. These “driven” ladies used to only scour the popular post-game player hang outs, leaving the athletes’ private lives away from the nightlife scene personal. But with the introduction of social websites, the “wooing” has transfigured in style. No longer are these women satisfied with leaving these encounters to fortunate happenstance. No, these lovely ladies flaunt their famed acquaintances so overtly, it would make Ricky Henderson blush.

Mini Series: Addicts? A look at the Player-Fan Relationship

http://35isntenough.blogspot.com/2010/02/mini-series-addicts-look-at-player-fan.htmlWhat's up everyone, it's Zach Randolph, Power Forward in the NBA. I was drafted nineteenth overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2001 draft and have since adorned jerseys for three other franchises (New York Knickerbockers, Los Angeles Clippers, and currently the Memphis Grizzlies). I stand six feet, nine inches tall, and was the 2003-2004 NBA season’s Most Improved Player of the year.

Your One and Only Super Bowl XLIV (44) Post

If you're even a casual viewer of the World Wide Leader (ESPN), you probably know that their Super Bowl coverage is a bit, shall we say... over the top? You're inundated with countless statistics to the point your head is spinning and the line between what's important in this game and what’s not becomes blurred (and I can't tell you what I'll do if I hear Mark Schlerth repeat the same thing over and over again. Yes Mark, Saints left tackle Jerrod Bushrod is in heaven right now in light of the Freeney injury. We got it, I just don't want to hear you say it for a 12th time).

This should be your one and only preview you read from here on out. We’ve broken it down to the five most important aspects of this game. It's OK to change the channel on your TV now. Really.

Over the next several posts, we'll outline the way we'll work and what to expect out of us sport-by-sport.

We should note that all of the sections described below are not going to be updated with particular consistency. Whichever category our post happens to fall within is the one it will be categorized in. There is no set quota of posts we're looking to reach either so there may be periods of many posts and some with droughts, but all of this is in an effort ensure that what we do produce is thoughtful, stimulating, and solid. That's not to say there won't be a quick post here or there if the mood should strike us, but it won't be the norm.

Beisbol section is broken into three different sections, Balls and Strikes, Nine Innings, and Minor League Banter.
